I found these gems, all from the same guy, reading the comments section:
He'd fit in well here.
LordTextus wrote:These "Turks" are so far to the left and smug about it I bet they're really Jews.
And my personal favorite:LordTextus wrote: You've been to the jewish school of snooping and smut-filled ridicule I see.
And it goes on for pages. One funny thing is, is that he at one point says that anyone who is a "leftist" (read: really everyone but that guy) is a biased jerk whose immediate reaction to anything they get "butthurt" over is to insult anyone they disagree with. He shows this brilliantly by calling everyone he disagrees with a Jew. Seriously.LordTextus wrote: If you follow Jon Stewart, the Young Berks, Michael Moore or any extreme left propaganda then you are jewish spiritually.
He'd fit in well here.

It was good for an incredulous laugh in the newsroom yesterday.

This was okay, but I tracked down the original with no commentary, which actually had even more good lines: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuFOywDxDcc
So, Fox News covers gangnam style... okay, so they want to cover trends and stuff and call it news - sure, why not. I mean, actual news websites/shows cover these things (and did indeed cover gangnam style) because people are interested in trends. That's not my complaint.
My complaint is this:

My complaint is this:

The issue with Gangnam Style isn't that it's a trend, it's that it relatively recently passed the "most listened to song in human history" threshold. So people are well within their rights to have news puff pieces about it right now. We get to have a new round of news pundits scratching their head about Gangnam Style in a month and a half when it passes the wholly arbitrary bench mark of one billion page views.
The thing where Bill O'Reilly can't understand why he doesn't understand the lyrics to a song that is not in English is pretty puzzling though. It's a level of self-centeredness and cluelessness that surprises me even from "Tide Goes In, Tide Goes Out" guy.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if he didn't assume everything in the world was in English. Because he really is that self-centred (and by extension, America-centred) to think that everything around the world (or at least worth listening to) is in English - whether he thinks it's because:
[*]Everyone speaks English and foreigners just choose to use their secondary languages simply to annoy him
[*]Non-English things just can't get any popularity because most of the world speaks English and only English, so your tiny foreignese production is only good in your own town
[*]There is a governing body that makes sure everything is released in English for his personal benefit
[*]Other countries don't even have cameras and televisions, they couldn't possibly make stuff without it being actually made by Americans - they just fill the roles of performing the English-lyric stuff.
Though I'd love to know which of these he thinks is true.

I found a version of Gangnam Style with lyrics, if people are curious as to what the "gibberish" says:

Not even that, it seems like just kind of a general nerd anthem.

Well, I call it that because there isn't a lot of macho posturing, Psy looks pretty nerdy, and one line proudly states that he has bulging ideas instead of bulging muscles

He wants a girl that will shit in a sandbox and lick her own asshole afterwards on the weekends? And I thought I was into some freaky shit.

Some very helpful culture analysts have actually gone on further - Gangnam is a new bourgeois district. Gangnam Style more or less satirizes the district in question, pointing out how in spite of how wealthy it is. . . . it's kind of ridiculous, what with people doing goofy things to APPEAR wealthy, even if they aren't.Prak_Anima wrote:Not even that, it seems like just kind of a general nerd anthem.

Well, yeah, I knew about that, but without more knowledge of what people from Gangnam are like, it seemed to me to primarily satirize it in the dance and not so much much in the lyrics.

Yeah, it's one of the many, many cases in which the song was created well before any consideration was put into what kind of video (if any) should promote it. Anyway, the lyrics aren't all that mysterious or mindblowing either--nobody should be particularly shocked that a 30 something dude wrote a song about wanting that partner who can balance keeping their shit together with knowing how to party.
I think Ludacris said it best: Lady in the street, but a freak in the bed.
But really, I don't know why it's so hard to at least get a peek into why Gangnam Style's so popular. It doesn't take rocket science to see that the video is poking fun at rich poseurs - and that sort of thing is totally in right now.

What's real funny is that the guy who made Gangnam (Psy, was it?) was really surprised that it became as popular as it did. He also said that he didn't like the fact that it had become so popular. Or so I've heard.

I wouldn't go that far. He's basically said that it gets tiresome demonstrating the same thing 50 times in every city in every country but that he's still proud of it. And honestly, ambivalence re: popularity is a bog standard thing for artists. It is completely normal for something to lose a bit of its sheen as it goes from being this new project you're working on to being as routine as tying your shoelaces.
